Trivia
According to an interview with Sean Astin , Andy McAlpine, who plays Troy Perkins, actually hurt his back while performing a stunt for this movie. The shot where the Fratellis grab him and he falls over was not meant to happen that way, but Sean Astin ran into Andy without realizing it and caused him to fall down.
One of the most notable changes between Chris Columbus' original story and the screenplay is the absence of Chester Copperpot. In the original, Mikey is the one who finds the treasure map and his older brothers ridicule him for it. The role of Chester Copperpot was created to give a reason for that scene in the movie.
Meta Content
In Oregon, there is a legend of a man who was said to have been a great pirate and sailor. In fact, his name was Chester Copperpot.
He spent much time in England but then moved back to Oregon where he began to rule the coast with an iron fist. He built himself a castle called Castle Copperpot which can still be visited to this day.
He was a very rich man and had a massive hoard of treasure that he had accumulated over the years.
The reason people think Chester Copperpot might have been a pirate is because he dressed in all black, kept a pet parrot on his shoulder at all times, and had more gold than anyone could even imagine.
He died aboard his ship, surrounded by his gold and lonely. He was later discovered as a corpse, by none other than The Goonies.
Some people say that all of Chester Copperpots' gold is still hidden away underneath the sea in a sunken ship. Perhaps one day you will be able to find it!
