Faced with the possibility of their homes in Astoria's Goon Docks area being foreclosed on by a country club, ten-year old Mikey and his friends reunite for one last weekend together.
In 2007 rumors began to spread that adaptations were coming out including an comic book series from Marvel Comics as well other media like video games or movies-- but it wasn't until 2020 when Fox commissioned Sarah Watson who created The Bold Type, about women filmmakers working at sea level whose ambitions lead them down unfamiliar paths; this time around instead though she takes us back thirty years earlier during 1985 Oregon coast Rainier mountain range where kids' lives are changed forever after they discover something.
By the way, if Dave Grusin's catchy chase music sounds subliminally familiar, believe it or not, it's a remake of Handel's sarabande, the original of which is used in Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece Barry Lyndon.
Datasoft's 1985 video game, The Goonies: Adventure in the sewers of Monstro Town (or How a Group Of Kids Saved One Little Monster), is an interactive adventure that takes place right outside your window. It has been called "infectiously good" and was even nominated for Best Handheld Game at the 1986 Golden Joystick Awards!
In this fun-filled action/adventure story you play as either Mikey or Chachi who must work together with Data SM to stop Xaverious from turning all monsters into eggs so they can be eaten by his pet dragon Beaky before it happens on Halloween night
The Goonies' most iconic images come from Cannon Beach, an hour south of Astoria. These include Brand's ride on the girl's bike through wooded hills near Ecola State Park and Lighthouse Gang's rugged hideout with Haystack Rock as its backdrop!
It's incredibly vast, perfect for long walks, wading in and out of shallow pools and marveling at the formations jutting out of the sea that helped the Goonies on their treasure hunt.
The Goonies was a group of misfits and diminutive Indiana Joneses - played by Josh Brolin, Sean Astin (and Corey Feldman) among others. However with more swearing in movies such as this one they became well known throughout America for their adventures around Oregon .
If you drive near the top of Skyline Avenue, on windy days when it intersects with Valley Street and looks out over town, then there's a good chance that Corey Feldman's character Mouth lived in this neighborhood.
The premise of exploring your own town in search of the world's most awesome treasure and finding it is basically every kid's fantasy.
The Goondocks are not a single neighborhood, but rather the town itself in Astoria Oregon. Mikey and friends grew up there so much that they were willing to risk their lives for it - which shows how integral this location was onscreen when we first meet them at age 12!
All grown up, original fans of The Goonies need to pass on their legacy. Now that kids are coming into the age where they can relate more closely with this 1985 cult classic about an adventure along rain-soaked Oregon coast; these future adventurers should relive it themselves!
The downtown Astoria area is a network of walkable streets along the Columbia River, topped by an iconic bridge spanning it.
Downtown plays an important role in the first chase scene, in which the other bad guys - the comically dysfunctional Fratelli family - escape from jail.
According to Alderman, this was the planned shooting location for the finale of The Goonies, on the other hand, bad weather and thunder scuttled those plans.
